Malmö Pride needs volunteers

Malmö Pride wouldn’t happen without our dedicated volunteers. We have some fantastic employees who take care of the programming, communications, co-ordination and contracts for the festival but the rest, that’s volunteer work.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone. Many of our volunteers identify as LGBTQIA+ and do it because they want to see a successful Pride Festival in Malmö that provides a safer space and greater visibility for LGBTQIA+ people. Some of our volunteers do not identify as LGBTQIA+ but are important allies and stand by our values. You do not need special skills or training to be a volunteer. Giving some of your time and energy is enough and anyone is welcome.

When can you volunteer?

The majority of our volunteers help us during the festival which this year will be the 5th to the 8th of July. You will normally attend an introduction meeting in June to learn about the festival and meet other volunteers and then you will be able to sign up for as many or as few volunteering shifts (roughly 4 hours at a time) as you deem fit.
Some of our volunteers also help with the running and organisation of Malmö Pride year-round. Between festivals there’s still a lot of work going on: communications (website, social media), finding sponsors and partners, brainstorming and planning for the coming festival, organising and staffing smaller events. This is more informal, it’s a small bunch of people doing what they can to make the festival happen. Whatever your skillset there’s always something you can help with! If you’re interested in helping us throughout the year then email to discuss your involvement further.

What will you do as a volunteer?

managing a venue: experienced volunteers with knowledge of the festival might take responsibility for a particular venue for a shift of a few hours at a time
supporting a venue manager: other volunteers will help at a venue, giving information to attendees, ensuring events run smoothly and on-time, making people feel welcome
parade support: lining the parade route to make sure people go the right way, are safe, and have a great time
artist support: some volunteers work backstage at the concerts making sure the performers are in the right place at the right time and have everything they need
being a runner: driving materials between events and venues
set-up: organising and decorating our venues before the festival starts
take-down: dismantling the festival when it’s done
communications: photographing and documenting events or posting on social media
We’re always open to suggestions so if you have a special expertise or belong to an under-represented identity group and feel that you could help us run a better, more inclusive festival and organisation then email us at and we can discuss further!

What do you get out of volunteering?

Closing party: volunteers come to our closing party for free. The closing party is often sold out in advance.
Food: we provide food throughout the festival for volunteers.
Meeting people: nothing beats community. Many of us volunteer because we get to meet new, interesting and similarly passionate people.
Experience: some people like to volunteer because they have an interest in seeing how festivals like ours are run. Volunteering is a great way to learn about the nuts and bolts of a Pride Festival.

Malmö Pride wouldn’t happen without passionate people giving their time and energy through volunteering. As a volunteer you get to know a lot of new people and have lots of fun. There are many different things that you can engage in, it’s all up to you, so sign up today! If you care about having a fantastic queer festival in Malmö then fill in this form here.

Sponsors are organisations or individuals who agree with our values and support our community (this bit is crucial) and are able to support us either financially or with other resources to help put on a fantastic festival. If you have the capacity to support and want to see a big, free, high quality event in Malmö that’s accessible to all then email to discuss further how we can collaborate.
