CARAS: Kink Communities and Research Today

In this presentation, CARAS presenters will provide an overview of alt-sex communities — i.e., kink, leather, BDSM, fetish, related sex work, and consensual non-monogamy (CNM) — and the historical evolution and current status of research addressing these groups. We will discuss how, for alt-sex groups in the United States in particular, research is related to promoting health and sexual minority rights.
The presentation will be followed by a discussion on alternative sexualities with CARAS and the two researchers Ellika Sevelin and Suet Fung Tsang from Lund University
The Community-Academic Consortium for Research on Alternative Sexualities (CARAS), founded in 2005, is a California-based non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and conducting research addressing alternative sexualities.
