A Dysfunctional System of Credibility Assessments for LGBTQIA+ Asylum Seekers

In Sweden, LGBTQI+ asylum seekers are subject to special eligibility assessments by the migration authorities. The outcomes of these assessments were analysed from a legal perspective in a 2020 report, “Refusal motivations behind LGBTQIA+ asylum matters”, authored by Aino Gröndahl, an RFSL asylum lawyer. The report is a product of an eight-year-long investigation of over 2000 individual legal cases at different levels of migration authorities in Sweden.
